Tim Farrell, AAF, AIFD, PFCI, shared tips for designers of every skill level at the Albany, New York 1-Day Profit Blast in March. Farrell’s presentation at the June 7, Cedar Rapids, Iowa Profit Blast will focus on generating more wedding and event business and creating designs for different budgets and styles.

This year is expected to be the biggest year for weddings since 1984, and couples are spending more than ever on flowers. Are you prepared to capture that business?

The labor market remains tight, with a record 11.5 unfilled job opening in March, according the U.S. Department of Labor. Do you have a plan to incentivize and retain your workers?

Inflation hit its highest point in 40 years, prompting consumers to tighten their spending. Are you and your team sending customers the right message and adding value to your product with great customer service?

The Society of American Florists’ 1-Day Profit Blast on June 7 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa is designed to help floral professionals capitalize on today’s opportunities and navigate today’s challenges. The event, which features three educational sessions, nearly 20 vendors at a supplier showcase, and time for networking, is underwritten by the Bill Doran Company.

In the first interactive session, “Stress-Free Events,” florist and educational speaker Tim Farrell, AAF, AIFD, PFCI, will share tips on how to generate more wedding and event business — including practical tips on how to adapt designs to the tastes and budgets of different clients — for more profit, less stress and stronger wedding and event sales. Farrell will demonstrate different designs and offer training tips that can help less experienced designers. He will also give advice on how to talk with couples about their expectations align with your services.

In the “Incentive Plans that Recruit, Motivate and Retain Talent” session, Derrick Myers, CPA, PFCI, of Crockett & Myers Associates, will share how incentivizing employees can help floral businesses compete for workers in a tight labor market, increase sales and profits, and attract and retain talent. He will also share how those programs can be scaled to fit businesses of different sizes and needs.

Communication is the key to great customer service, and that starts with strong teams, common goals and great communication. In the session “Communication: If I Could Read Their Mind…” Vonda LaFever, AIFD, PFCI, and Lori Wilson of Flower Clique will share the most common areas of miscommunication, how to articulate your expectations and break down misunderstandings, and how to give employees guidance and instructions to feel comfortable in the job so they can deliver great customer service.

The Cedar Rapids event is one of several Profit Blasts SAF is holding this year. Profit Blasts are also scheduled for Denver, Colorado on Oct. 11 and San Marcos, Texas on Nov. 9. In March, nearly 120 floral professionals gathered for a Profit Blast in Albany, New York.

“I truly loved every minute,” Jess Beretz of Farmhouse Floral Design in Middleburgh, New York, said of the Albany event. “It was very informative and the energy in the room was great. I left feeling positive and with tools to help me improve and strengthen things at my shop and with my employees.”

Lissa Mariano, of Village Floral and Gifts in Scotia, New York, said the information presented at the Albany event was relevant to today’s challenges and would help her business.

“It gave me just the boost of fresh motivation and inspiration I was needing,” she said. “It is always great to pick up new tips and connect with others in the industry.”
