Customer service isn’t all about attitude. A friendly demeanor should be commended, but without substance to back it up, it’s ultimately meaningless.
If you truly want to impress customers and earn repeat business, you need to be helpful.
Prom is a prime opportunity to demonstrate your expertise and usefulness. It’s an occasion that involves a lot of first-time flower buyers who can’t quite communicate what they (or their date, or their son’s date…) want(s). They crave an experienced professional who can share what’s available and help them whittle down the choices to pick the perfect corsage, cuff, necklace, ring or hairpiece.
Unlike brides (who often conduct ample research prior to a floral consultation), prom customers tend to be unfamiliar with types of flowers. Asking them if they prefer ranunculus or alstroemeria likely won’t get you very far. Rather than diving into specifics, try pinpointing their overall style.
Were you aware that SAF created a tool that does just that? The “What’s Your Prom Flower Personality?” quiz asks users nine questions about their personality, fashion preference and prom plans to identify blooms that best suits them. Upon completion of the quiz, they receive their results—one of five categories (classic, trendy, bold and daring, artsy and edgy, and eclectic)—along with photos and advice for styling flowers for prom.
This quiz can save time for both you and your customers, and get teens excited about picking out their prom flowers. Have a tablet for the shop? Bookmark the site and have teens fill in their answers when they come in. Also be sure to share the quiz on your social media pages.
