At the Grassroots Breakfast during SAF’s Congressional Action Days on March 10, U.S. Virgin Islands Rep. Stacey Plaskett (D) will explain why conversations by participants with lawmakers are important.
The chair of a congressional subcommittee with jurisdiction over key floral industry research funds will share her insider perspective — and why it’s so critical for lawmakers to hear directly from business owners — during the Society of American Florists’ 40th annual Congressional Action Days, March 9-10.
As a member of the House Committee on Agriculture and chair of the subcommittee on Biotechnology, Horticulture and Research, U.S. Virgin Islands Rep. Stacey Plaskett (D) helps advance regulations and ideas that support innovation and production of existing farmers and make sure research is relevant to American farmers, said SAF’s Senior Lobbyist Joe Bischoff, Ph.D.
“It will be exciting to hear her speak — she’s well-respected on both sides of the aisle,” Bischoff said. “She is someone who has a great appreciation for small businesses, chairs the subcommittee with jurisdiction over the research and regulatory programs that are pertinent to the floriculture industry and has a very pragmatic approach to problem solving.”
Bischoff believes that Plaskett will provide a positive view of the legislative process and speak directly about how to get things done.
Agriculture is a key economic driver in rural communities, and Plaskett has a track record of working to ensure the Virgin Islands and other rural communities receive adequate funding for necessary programs.
